The Five Hobbies You Need to Boost Your Year

Hobbies & habits are the keys to self improvement. They provide compound interest to get you to your goals.⁣

What is a hobby? To define it, a hobby is an activity that is done regularly in one’s free time for joy and/or to pass the time. ⁣

Everyone has hobbies but it’s important to understand that every hobby should have an intention attached to it, rather than just passing time. Keep in mind that all of these hobbies should be fun too. Don’t force something on your life that you don’t enjoy. FYI the average millionaire has average of seven income streams.

Make intentional choices this year to develop hobbies that will help you grow professionally. This can be reading books or taking online classes, finding industry podcasts and listening to them regularly. Learning should never stop.

Take up a sport that fits with your physical limitations as well as your schedule. Do your research, check with your doctor before you start anything new. Do you enjoy exercising alone or do you like being on a team? Find the right sport for you.  Facebook groups are a great place to find hiking groups or pickle ball opportunities.

We all need a little extra money, right? What are you good at, what do you love to do. One of the most important questions I typically ask my life coaching clients is “When you were younger, what were you doing so much that you would lose track of time?”©  Was it playing basketball, reading, cooking or something else that is a great memory from your youth. Whatever it is, could it be a hobby now that might make you some extra money. Could you coach basketball or find a book reviewing company? Could you cook for a neighbor once a week or once a month. Advertise in your neighborhood facebook group and offer your cooking services. Remember that this is a hobby and it doesn’t have to make you tons of money just a little to add to your bank account each month.

Tap into your creative side with a hobby. It doesn’t have to fit in a box of typical creative hobbies, it can be gardening, landscaping, fixing computers, collecting poster or vinyl records, or organizing things. Think outside the box

Sometimes hobbies can cross pollinate. For example I love to shop at tag sales, thrift stores and flea markets. I like to take things and repurpose them, a few years ago I was in to updating chandeliers and selling them on Craigslist. Now I love finding old purses & wallets and reselling them on sites like Mercari and Poshmark. I make a little extra money and I love passing my time perusing through thrift stores or flea markets.

Be intentional when choosing a hobby or past time. Then just have fun!
